For the first time in the country’s history, Uzbekistan is introducing a national football championship for girls under the age of 12. The tournament is being held as part of FIFA’s League Development Programme and marks a significant milestone in a broader initiative aimed at developing women’s football nationwide.
The championship’s main objectives include:
• Promoting interest in football among young girls;
• Providing regular match experience for beginner players;
• Identifying talented young players and guiding them toward football academies;
• Supporting coaches and schools engaged in girls’ football;
• Promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
The competition will be held across all regions of Uzbekistan and will follow a U-12 format — with smaller pitches, shorter match durations, and simplified rules to suit the age group.
This initiative is expected to serve as a foundation for the future success of women’s national teams and will play a vital role in the rapid development of women’s sports and grassroots football throughout the country.
