The 75th FIFA Congress was held in Asunción, the capital of Paraguay. Representatives of the Uzbekistan Football Association, led by Senior vice-president Ravshan Irmatov, participated alongside the member countries of the organization.
The agenda included the election of members to the FIFA Disciplinary, Ethics, Appeals, Governance, Audit, and Compliance Committees, the discussion of proposals from member associations and the Council, the strengthening of FIFA’s global stance against racism in football, and the review of proposals submitted by the member associations. The Congress also confirmed that the FIFA Women’s World Cup would expand to 48 teams starting in 2031.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino spoke about the new format for FIFA World Cups, emphasizing that these tournaments would be the most diverse in history. He noted that the aim of these changes is to encourage more teams to showcase their talents on the international stage, thus increasing the popularity of football and providing more opportunities for every continent.
“Football unites the world. It should only be a source of joy. In developing football, we must embrace all regions. This is our responsibility—of the global football community,” stated FIFA President.
During the Congress, discussions also included this year’s upcoming FIFA Club World Cup and next year’s FIFA World Cup for national teams.
According to the agenda, the 76th FIFA Congress is scheduled to take place in Vancouver, Canada, on April 30, 2026.
